Rumbletree Creates Brand to
Help NH Fishing Community
North Hampton, NH – August 5, 2009

The New Hampshire Fishing Industry has been a vital component of the Seacoast’s heritage, culture and economy for over 400 years. So when the opportunity arose to help market their ability to process fish instate, providing a truly local product, Rumbletree jumped at the chance to help out.
“As a New Hampshire native, I felt this was an important initiative for Rumbletree to support,” said President Charles Yeaton. “Buying and eating local food has become very important to residents over the years,” said Yeaton, “The ability to add seafood to the list of local products not only strengthens the Seacoast but the state as a whole.”
With several factors affecting the viability of this industry, including increased regulatory conditions and declining revenues, implementing a plan to sell fish directly to New Hampshire outlets became increasingly important.
“What was needed was a way to sell fish locally in order to reduce the cost of transportation and handling by out-of-state distribution agents,” said Erik Anderson, head of the New Hampshire Commercial Fisherman’s Association. “The results would be to sustain a more viable fishing industry with improved profit margins, while providing fresher seafood for consumers at more reasonable prices. Even the environment would benefit through reduced greenhouse gas emissions by eliminating substantial trucking of the fish back and forth to markets.”

“Having been in business for over 18 years, we feel strongly about giving back to the community,” said Barrie Hanlon, Director of Operations & Marketing at Rumbletree. “Getting involved with this initiative provided the perfect opportunity for Rumbletree to do that while showcasing the quality of our work.”
New Hampshire Fresh and Local Seafood has secured the following locally-based businesses to serve as wholesale and/or retail distribution agents: Seaport Fish, Sanders Fish Market, Portsmouth Lobster Company, Ricker Lobster Company and Yankee Fishermen’s Cooperative. These agents will ensure that the seafood products being marketed were locally caught by NH-based vessels and offered the highest quality and freshness to consumers. In the months ahead, the committee will solicit other subscribers including distribution agents, restaurants and retail outlets.
